DEPARTMENT OF INSPECTIONS, LICENSES, & PERMITS

The Department is assisted by the Board of Electrical Examiners.

BOARD OF ELECTRICAL EXAMINERS
The Board of Electrical Examiners licenses electricians, and processes all electrical license applications. Moreover, the Board hears grievances related to electrical licenses, electrical work, and may serve as an arbiter between contractors and homeowners. In this oversight, the Board may hold hearings regarding the refusal, suspension, or revocation of electrical licenses and permits.

On electrical matters, and professional guidelines and standards for electricians and companies, the Board advises the County Executive, the County Council, and the Director of the Department of Inspections, Licenses, and Permits. The Board recommends to them rules and regulations related to licenses, examinations, permits, and inspections.

All records and meeting minutes of the Board are filed with the Department of Inspections, Licenses, and Permits (County Code, secs. 3.200-3.229).

Appointed by the County Executive with County Council consent, the Board has seven members. The Director of the Department of Inspections, Licenses, and Permits chairs the Board (County Code, sec. 3.202).

BOARD OF LICENSE COMMISSIONERS

In Howard County, the County Council, ex officio, constitutes the Board of License Commissioners (Code 1957, Art. 2B, sec. 15-107.1).

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE HEARING BOARD
To the Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board, the Board of License Commissioners in Howard County delegates its authority to conduct hearings and render decisions on cases involving alcoholic beverage licensees (Code 1957, Art. 2B, sec. 15-107.1).

Appointed by the County Executive with County Council consent, the Board consists of five members, one from each councilmanic district (Code 1957, Art. 2B, sec. 15-107.1).
