    • In 2015, manufacturing provided $20.2 billion to Maryland's gross domestic product, up from $19.6 billion in 2014. Employing about 102,000 people, approximately 3,000 manufacturing firms conduct their operations in Maryland.

    According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the highest employment in 2013 was in the computer and electronic products industry (15,716 jobs), the food manufacturing industry (11,976 jobs), and chemical manufacturing (9,937 jobs). With total value of shipments of manufactured goods in 2014 at $40.2 billion, total annual payroll by Maryland manufacturers was $6.0 billion paid to 97,994 workers.

    In 2014, Maryland manufacturing was led by chemical manufactures ($5.1 billion), computer and electronic product manufactures ($4.3 billion), food, beverage and tobacco manufactures ($3.4 billion), and plastics and rubber manufactures ($957 million).
